5 tips on how to stay fit in lockdown

How to stay fit in lockdown

When it comes to deciding how to use your time during lockdown, you can see it in two ways — a chance to do nothing, or an opportunity to really get on top of your fitness. And the latter is certainly the best option!

While there’ll no doubt be stresses and strains to deal with, staying fit during lockdown should be right up there on your list of priorities. After all, it’s not just your physical fitness that’ll benefit, your mental health will too. Put these five tips into play during lockdown to look after both your body and your mind.

1. Do something every day

It’s all too easy to fall into bad habits during lockdown. Watching endless bad TV. Sitting around in food-stained clothing. Forgetting how to shave your chest. Not exercising! Self-monitoring is vital in these times, and making sure you exercise every day is so important for both your physical and mental wellbeing. With the right plan, you can keep on top of things.

2. Follow a training plan

The key to getting good results is consistency. And the key to consistency is having a plan. It’s all about developing a routine that provides you with what you need to make progress, helping you achieve your goals whilst fitting in your workouts around your daily life.

3. Keep it interesting

Same old, same old. That’s how lockdown days feel, and whilst following a routine will help keep you motivated, keeping things interesting will help too. In addition to your resistance and cardio training plan, add in some fun activities too.

When you can get outdoors, go and kick that football around. Hop on your bike. Pound away your stresses on a punching bag. Do some yoga in a park. Whatever floats your boat. The point is that you can supplement your training plan with other interesting fitness activities. And the more fun they are, the better!

4. Follow a meal plan

Diet and exercise goes hand in hand, but when you’re in lockdown it’s easy to let things slip. In the same way that following a training regime will keep you motivated, following a healthy meal plan will also keep you on track.

That doesn’t mean completely restricting yourself or not having a cheat meal every now and then. It’s about monitoring your food and making good choices that fit in with your lifestyle. And when you can see it in front of you, you are far more likely to stick to your plan.

5. Get enough sleep

Finally, and lack of shuteye could’ve gone in with the bad habits of too much TV and forgetting how to shave your chest section, make sure you get enough sleep. That means not staying up all hours because you can. Bad habit.

Rest is every bit as important as food and training when it comes to fitness. For one, you risk feeling lethargic and demotivated if you’re too tired. It’s also more than likely that you won’t have the energy or inclination to get your workouts done. So, just like your nutrition and fitness plan, keep an eye on your sleep patterns too.

Just because there’s a lockdown, there’s no reason that you can’t improve your fitness. Let’s put a personalised training plan together and get you on the right track to fulfilling your potential today!
